The SV205 CMOS color camera is a popular choice for beginners due to its affordable price tag and solar system photography capabilities. This camera uses a 8M Pixel SONY IMX179 imaging sensor with 1.4µmx1.4µm pixel size.
This type of camera sensor is ideal for capturing images of planets like Saturn,Jupiter and Mars because the images are highly magnified. You can either take single exposures during times of good seeing. Or record video footage (AVI or YUV uncompressed format) and stack the best frames in Registax.
The reason for this method is to compensate for varying levels of transparency in the Earth’s atmosphere. Some of the best planetary images in the world were taken using these inexpensive “webcam” style cameras.
Simply point your telescope at the Moon or a planet and record a quick video. The included software analyzes each frame of video, throws away the fuzzy ones, and perfectly aligns the remaining images. The result is a bright, clear image with the maximum amount of color and detail. SV205 is a great way to get started with astroimaging, especially if you live in a light-polluted area. If you can see the planet the sky, you can image it with SV205!
General Clean
Svbony SV205 camera comes with an IR-Cut protection window, which could protect the sensor from dust and humidity. And the inside of the image sensor is dry and sealed. If you should clean the sensor, it is best to do it during the daytime. To see the dust, please connect the camera to your telescope. Point the telescope to a bright place, a Barlow lens is required to see the dusts clear. Then attach the camera and adjust the exposure to make sure not over exposed.
How to Use Astronomy Camera
1. Install the astronomy software Download the astronomy software from Sharpcap website, And install it to your computer.
2. Connect SV205 camera to your PC Please connect SV205 camera to the computer's USB 3.0 port by using the original cable. WINDOWS system will remind the discovery of a new hardware.
Notes: DO NOT use an extension
3. SV205 camera is a standard UVC device, it could work with Windows 7, 8 & 10. Windows system will
automatically install the driver
4. Check the SVBONY SV205 in the computer device manager. To make sure everything connected well.
5. Testing the SV205 camera by the sharpcap software (NO NEED TO CONNECT TO THE TELESCOPE).

How is USB 3.0 8MP SV205 Camera?
SVBONY SV205 camera is the second version astronomy camera. It could view and capture live video of the Sun, Moon, and planets on your computer. Also use Sharpcap software same as SV105 camera. 8M Pixel image magnification is much better when you capture the moon on your computer. And this new SV205 could be used in the day time. It could capture the clear image of your view target by the software. What’s more, you need manual set the settings to get a much clear image.

We tested the Svbony SV205 camera with SharpCap, a popular feature-rich program specifically designed for a selection of common astronomy-related digital video cameras, including the SV105 and other brand cameras.
SharpCap is a product designed by astronomers for astronomers, and it is being continually improved and enriched. Online tutorials are available to help you get up to speed with the program if you are unfamiliar with it.
In tests, the camera gave no issues when driven with the latest version SharpCap running on Windows 10 computer.
When enter the sharpcap software, all camera settings are automatically. You may see the picture is out of color balance. Also maybe the picture is a little blurry. You need choose a resolution, 8MP 3264×2448 is most clear, then choose the YUYV video format. This is the best image resolution.
Then adjust the camera settings to achieve a better colorful image. Rudi said it is better to set the white balance auto, also I will tell you that please set lower exposure time, and then adjust the Gain. Finally choose a best point to capture the image.
The USB 3.0 transport is much faster than the USB 2.0, Please notice the USB 3.0 port on your computer is blue jack. USB 3.0 backward compatible with USB 2.0, then the transport speed will same as USB 2.0.
